Check your Master Logger Card?
Be sure to check your card and keep track of the expiration date. You must complete six hours of continuing education before your expiration date in order to renew your card for another three year period. If your card expires and you do not have the six hours of continuing education then you must attend the 3-day Kentucky Master Logger Program once again in order to receive an active card.

KML Attendence and Program Information
Since the inception of the KML program in 1992 through the end of 2006, 154
three day introductory programs have been conducted with over 6,707
individuals successfully completing the course. This equates to 462 class
days, 3,696 hours of classes, and over 160,968 class hours logged by
participants just in the introductory program. Add to this the 168 one day
CEC courses that have been taught since 1996 with over 5,297 loggers
attending and the total class days jumps to over 630, with 5,040 hours of
classes, and over 203,000 class hours logged by participants. Over the years
participants have retired from logging and new loggers are added. At the end
of 2006 there were 3,528 active Kentucky Master Loggers. The majority are
from Kentucky. However, there are Kentucky Master Loggers from 14 states
not including Kentucky and over 150 from Tennessee.
KML Program Effects on Logging in Kentucky
Data from Master Logger surveys indicate that there are approximately 1,400
logging firms in Kentucky with an average of 3.2 individuals in each firm
for a total of 4,500 loggers. Each firm has one or two individuals with
Master Logger status. Annually approximately 8,000 woodland owners have
their timber cut by firms with Kentucky Master Loggers. These logging firms
harvest 764 million board feet of timber annually providing approximately
115 million dollars of timber income to these woodland owners. These firms
provide the bulk of the log resource needed to fuel the second largest
hardwood lumber producing industry in the U.S. The use of BMPs by these
loggers helps protect 1,298 perennial and 3,577 intermittent streams
annually. Post class surveys indicate a usage rate of between 30 and 90
percent of the information provided to them by the Kentucky Master Logger
Program. Testing before and after classes indicates a 40 to 70 percent
improvement in knowledge of the subjects covered.
